Hi Everyone,
I won't be going to Burning Man this year, but I will be there to help load up
Sparty at the Doyle Depot. I can't help unload once back because I'll still
be in Germany. But I will return and can help on Sept. 12 to unload and clean up.

Hair Of the Dog Lounge is now at Facebook

With all of the trouble Tribe is having, it's good to have an alternate bulletin board for our community. It's up and I'll do my best to cross post.

Tribe should be ashamed of themselves for taking anyone's money when they obviously are not concerned with whether or not the site is accessible. Or, to be fair, if they are concerned, that concern is not apparent to this end-user.

The usual HOTD house bands plus special surprises will be on hand to provide entertainment for those looking to experience the HOTD stage antics in a relatively dust-free environment. You know you want to be there, so mark your calendars. More developments to come.

Hello HOTD-ers!

Just a quick note to say Thanks. This past burn was my first, and my 2 friends bailed so I was there solo. Until HOTD. I never felt as welcomed anywhere else on the playa than I did at HOTD. I learned about the shrimp (still have the flyer!), listened to great live music, shared tasty beverages, watched the Irish-Russian chess duel ("just one more game..."). It was awesome.

So I just wanted to say Hello, because I bought my ticket for this year and it reminded me of you. Can't wait to see you all again. Most importantly, THANK YOU for making my first time so great.

Much peace,
Another HOTD night at the Yankee?

I've been in touch with the Connecticut Yankee and we could do another
night HOTD bands there soon. We could do a Saturday night in December
or January. I propose we do the same as we did last time, Reverberators, Curly,
and the Gomer Band. They don't usually book more than one band. So if we
stick to 3, plus maybe an allstar with Emory and some Larry musical stuff too
than we could have a pretty good night out and get some people out to support it.

I will likely spam everyone involved soon, when I figure out how to do that best.
Until then, I hope you guys see this and want to help get the ball rolling. G

HOTD Bar Burn

Finally !!!

...from Lissa Shoun (BRC Airport Manager)...

I missed the real burn. Not that silly little stick figure of a man, but the burning of the old HoTD bar on the ashes of the man. It happened Wednesday night, Sept 5, when the Airport crew was off at the hot springs. As I heard afterwards, it was dropped from a crane into the fire. Sort of warm-up performance for Thursday night's entertainment. Thank the great and powerful wizards of DPW for dealing with your crap.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/markyee/1423706379/

It's still not a good idea to show up at an airport with this attached to your sweatshirt, but I have a lot more sympathy for the 19 yo for not thinking that this would trigger men with submachine guns (?!) treating her like a terrorist. Really, this was even more innocuous than the last Boston bomb scare, triggered by Lite-brite displays of a cartoon character flipping the finger.

2007 Golden Moments in the Bar

It was a stellar year for the bar. I definately think it was a highlight to have the Silicon Village
with us this year. Tons of great music flowed from the stage which included some of these burners.
Thanks so much! Besides these 2 Golden Moments for Gomer Hendrix was:
1) Thursday morning sunrise party all night - looking for an open bar - WTF? Here's one - HOTD!
2) Friday morning same thing. HOTD open - Spoon, D-Mo, Newt, and Me played baseball with our
bar furniture and half open beer cans, sunscreen, whatever. Yeeaaaah. Can you feel it?

how about you?

Friday, Sept 21st, on of BRC's icons of HOTD fame is having a b'day...

And we are going to make sure he can't blow out all the candles (course, that may be just because of the number of candles),,,

but let's get him drunk anyway......

Sunburn Sarah's house in Hayward, very close to San Mateo Bridge,,, ping me for address if you dont' already have it....

Bring some chips/dips/beer if ya like, we will have some until it lasts..... we will have a cake too... bring your bathing suit if you are shy for the hot tub...

Party starts after work,, so drop by anyting after 5:30 pm ish and goes to about midnight or so..
Gomer has a gig the next night.. and even if it is with a celtic band, he is going to have to play

D-Mo, Spanky and Gomer represented the bands position on how to handle groupies and other various HOTD stories..

I did forget to bring out the shot glasess. so next year with a little pre-lubrication of the throats will promote a much better show.

We got the location we were hoping for:

Coral Reef and 6:30.

400x400 total. I think that definitely places us on a corner.

And here's the correct map link, I hope:

Final call! Early arrivals are leaving the Bay Area Friday after work and getting to the playa late that night. Saturday arrivals are welcome.

Saturday night burn will feature a spectacular and possibly semi-legal pyrotechnic display.

Email or call me or one of the other secret society members privately for exact location.

Hope to see you (with all your fingers) on the playa!

Burning Toast Man 2007 is July 14-15th

I am pleased to announce the date for this year's Burning Toast Man Event!

Join us for a weekend of pyromania and semi-controlled explosives July 14th and 15th. As in previous years, meet fellow Toasters in Reno or on the playa Friday, then everyone on the playa Sat. Hard core Toasters may stay Sunday night; the whipped and employed wimps will return to salaryland Monday.

Further plans will no doubt be discussed on Tribe: http://burningtoastman.tribe.net
This is the main Toasty web portal for discussion, with links to Toasty's own personal website: http://burningtoastman.com. Further details to follow at these two fine locations.

Burn Toasty, Burn!!!

Hey HOTD...

My friend Gail is here on Tribe with 1 friend, me. She came to Burning Man with me in 2000 and camped at HOTD. Well, actually I went and got her from Fernley on Wednesday , then it rained like hell.
Here's a link to her profile... She's shy but has lots to say when you get her going. Politics, worker's rights, literature. She has a book collection that could shame many small town libraries.

Say hi if you remember her....

Heya folks...

Just to prove how much of a geek I can really be, I created the HOTD "All-Stars" tribe, naming it after the billing used for off-playa events, like the HOTD Decompression last year.

Consider it a compartmentalized place to discuss musical goals for the playa and off-playa events that gather the musical elements of the camp.

Per majority vote and arm twisting, HOTD agreed to join the Burning Silicon Camp Collective for 2007. Unfortunately for us laggards, BSCC is a lot more proactive about event planning, including camp 'registration' and fees. Meaning, Now.

All the deets are posted at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CampatBM/

A FAQ is being developed, but not yet ready. Until then, you can post questions here or contact me directly for more info about camping with HOTD in 2007.

Hi, I stumbled half drunken accross your camp last Saturday afternoon I think. Lukily I had a couple of my harmonicas with me and had a rip roarin time playin a few tunes with yall. You may remmeber me as the Speedo clad harmonica man. Anyway, I'm fairly certain I'd like to camp with you folk next burn.
Now I'm afraid to say I don't remember anyone's name in particular, but I had a fairly lengthy chat with a guitar player fellow who gave me the lowdown on the camp. Thankfully I DID remember that you were HOTD on Tribe.net, so, here I am. Please, if you DO remember me, step up and renew our aquaintance with a temporarily sober HarpMan.
Thanks.

Yo yo yo! It's true, Curly actually has a gig at Center Camp this year, Tuesday night at 11:30pm playa time, or roughly that. We'll be doing our little stint, then opening it up for other HOTD mayhem, such as the Gomer Hendrix Experience. Yes, HOTD takes over the Center Camp stage. Please come by and show your support.

This year's HOTD won't happen without all you good folks right here on tribe.net
There seems to be around 75 of us right here all clamoring to be part of the project.
As everyone knows it's work to put up and operate a bar with a stage for live music.
Lots of people help out each year to make it all happen. Kudos go out big time to
one man for any success of HOTD in 2005. That Man is Mark Yee. Without all his
hard work and dedication to this project it would have been very lame.

Please get involved this year. Bartend. Help build, tear down, manage the stage, etc.
If everyone helps out it will be better for us all and relieve the burdon on those few
that get stuck doing all the work. Should I shut up? You may think so, but I have a feeling
it could be the greatest bar on the playa - with some help from everyone.

Can't make it to Burning Man this year? Then you Must go to Burning Toast Man
http://burningtoastman.tribe.net for info.
now I'll shut up.

howdy all;

after two years of jamming at HOTD and having some of my best memories made at your illustrious baghdad on the playa, my band is finally coming to the playa! however, i'm not sure if it's logistically possible to bring our gear yet. so i was wonderring if a: you guys will be back and b: we could set up a time slot to play if not just show up and jam randomly while treating your gear with respect and appreciation. we're a trio and the bass player and i made it out last year to help set up and we're down for getting that tarp up again this year. i'll bring a couple of jugs of vodka as well to contribute at least a good half hour's worth of drinking as well. also, if you need supplies, (strings, sticks, cables, etc.) message me directly as i work at a local music store and can help defray the cost of that which will probably fail on the playa.

rock on,

Ok, so it's that time of year again, time to count my blessings and be pleased that I've made it another 12 months without serious downfall. :) That have been said, let's all get pissed together at Hockey Haven around 10:30ish. The Haven is located in the Outter Richmond, across from the Balboa Theater (on Balboa, between 37th & 38th). It's a small, dark, blue-collar, hole-in-the-wall, with a pool table, dim lights, strong drinks, cold beer, a killer tune box and Golden Tee for those interested. :) So, whaddaya say, come on down and quaff a stein for my b-day. No presents, just be present.

IMPORTANT: Donations

For those camping @ HOTD this year this announcement is very important, please read it thoroughly. Please also send this on to anyone you are bringing that may not be on the list. The beginning is short and to the point. If you are really into the details read it all.

THE PROBLEM:
We need money. Camp usually costs us around $3,000. Right now we have $300.

THE SOLUTION:
Send money! Like, yesterday! Donations on the playa won't be turned away but we really need it ahead of time to buy the stuff we need.
Bring booze to donate to the bar. 2 1.75liter bottles + enough mixers to support that alcohol. It doesn't have to be good, you just have to make sure it's not rubbing alcohol.

HOW TO DONATE:
Please send your checks, cash, or paypal payments to the treasurer as soon
as possible.

Snail mail:
Lisa Doyle
1344 Rosalia Ave.
Sunnyvale, CA 94087

Paypal:
ldoyle13381@earthlink.net

THE DETAILS/THE NUMBERS:
The planning meeting on Sunday went great and this year is going to be great. The only area where it isn't going so great are funds. HOTD is in serious need of financial support from you our campers. We've made it clear that donating to HOTD isn't manditory, everyone is welcome to camp with us. But without money our camp can't function. How much should you donate - I'll leave that up to you. Every little bit helps, and seriously I understand what it is to be financially strapped but if you can afford to go to Burningman, bring/make costumes, food, booze, drugs, etc., then I'm sure you can kick down a spare a twenty twen twen (that's a $20 spot for all who don't know) or three or five for the camp.

What does that money cover? That money goes to many areas, here are just a few: materials (bolts, nuts, screws, PVC, tarps, wood, duct tape), trash bags, truck rental, gas for the truck and gennie, dry ice, regular ice, juice, sodas, fruit, booze, mixers, beer, water, cups, musical equipment repair, etc. etc. etc. There's tons more. Just know it goes, and it goes quick. Sometimes we just squeek by and many years we end up in the hole.

So why should you contribute? If you enjoy any part of the camp, the music, shade, fun, and ice cold beer or drink from the bar, the common areas, the blinky blinky lights, the stuff to sit on, the electricity etc. then you are enjoying something that cost us money.

How much should you contribute? What you can. We will have anywhere from 50 + people in camp. We need around $3,000. You can do the math. Just remember every little bit helps, even if it's only a $20 (and come on, even the poor people can spare a $20, don't even tell me you can't). Just to lay out the basics, if everyone of our anticipated 50 (or so campers) donated $50 we'd still be short. In the past we've had everything from $20 to $300 plus.

In order to keep camp costs down we are also asking you the campers to help with the lush fund. That is, booze. If everyone brings 2 x 1.75 liter bottles and mixers to support it we'll be doing good. You can easily do this for under $25. We go through loads of booze. One year we ran out by Thursday.

Sorry this was so long winded. But we need coin (and booze people). Please pass it on to those who may not be on the list or that you are bringing with you.

Geeze, less than 3 weeks away! I'm gettin stoked.

If I don't see you before then, I'll catch you in the dirt.
Billy D

D-Mo or not D-Mo,

Do you guys have a more complete version of DRS1 singing the Whiskey and Whores theme song? I want to make a CD for it to loop in the bar until the whole playa is singing it.

I can also make one for "I Got Fisted at the Hair of the Dog".

But if we play them at the same time, the world might explode.

I was camped right next to The Hair of The Dog Bar. They had a kinda open mic that was the funniest I've ever heard. It SUCKED so bad most of the time. I friggin' loved it. No boot in drier. But the Temple Body girl is right. There's plenty of electronic stuff to go around. That and dust.

HOTD Radio

I have been doing internet radio shows for over a year now, but recently a few of us HOTDoggers have started doing HOTD Radio on the channel I DJ on. It's interactive too! You can interact with the DJ's and other listeners via a chatroom.

Well, tonight Senior Spanky and myself will be hosting another session of HOTD Radio, Monday Oct.18th at 7pm Pacific Time. We plan to take questions from the audience, and play some tunes recorded from the Hair of the Dog Lounge over the years, as well as some from Lisapalooza.

To listen, please tune into AwesomeRadio.net, at http://www.awesomeradio.net

Technically speaking, it is a shoutcast stream (ie. mp3 format) and can easily be listened to with WinAmp (www.winamp.com) or Windows MediaPlayer under Windows, iTunes will work for you on the Mac, and XMMS (www.xmms.org/) under Linux...

AwesomeRadio serves 3 streams, with increasing quality/bandwidth requirements. Here are the addresses to use:

broadband radio.awesomeradio.net:8000
24/22 mono radio.awesomeradio.net:8006
16/16 mono radio.awesomeradio.net:8004

For more info on how to tune in, you can click below for some detailed instructions that may be helpful.

http://www.dmomusic.com/dj/index.htm

HOTD Radio is Interactive! You can log onto the AwesomeRadio chatroom to interact directly with us DJ's and other listeners. Go to the AwesomeRadio home page at http://www.awesomeradio.net and click on "Chatroom" from the menu bar on the left. If you use a chat client like mIRC (www.mirc.com) you can configure your settings as listed below...

IRC Server: irc.awesomechat.net
Ports: 6661-6667
Chatroom: #awesomeradio

Thanks,
D-Mo.

Casting Call: Get drunk (for free!) and famous (well, maybe)!

Found this on another tribe:

Reply to: drunk@drunkthemovie.com

Want to get drunk for free and talk to us about your life while being filmed? Do you consider yourself interesting/funny/crazy? Are you unabashed about seeing yourself get more than a little loose on the big screen?

Two local, independent producers are looking for approximately 20 interesting folks in the Bay Area for our humorous documentary chronicling the effects of alcohol on personality.

Here's how it works:

You come to us and sit down in a chair. We provide you with your poison of choice and for up to three hours we record your progress from sober to as drunk as you would like to get. We'll buy you enough of the wine, spirits or beer you need to accomplish this (below the threshold of human toxicity, of course!). Expensive wine drinkers please take note: our spending limit is $50 per person.

The shoot will be indoors, at a home business location in San Francisco. For your own comfort, you may bring a friend to the shoot. During the course of the shoot, we will ask you questions about yourself. These questions range from the mundane and ordinary to the type you might see in a colorful online personality test. You of course have the discretion to answer only the questions you see fit. You may also appear in the movie under a pseudonym. This will be a conversation, geared toward the study of how behavior changes with alcohol. At the end of the shoot, if you do not already have a ride, a member of the crew will drive you home.

We are looking to get this movie into the 2005 festival circuit, or even possibly onto MTV or HBO.

We will be hosting several group "Meet-and-Greets" during the first two weeks of October at a San Francisco pub. At the gatherings, you will meet the producers, Rachel and Sean, fill out a simple form telling us a bit more about yourself, and participate in short interviews. We wish to be certain we are gathering a diverse group of fun and fascinating people, and we want you to see that we are not a bunch of insane pornographers.

The shoots will take place during 6pm and 9pm time slots during the month of November. Appearance dates will be scheduled during October with the individuals chosen from the Meet-and-Greets.

To participate, you must:

- be over 21, with valid photo I.D.

- sign an appearance release form

If this sounds like fun, send us an email and tell us a little bit about yourself and why you want to be in this film. We will email you back with the location and dates of the Meet-and-Greets.

We look forward to hearing from you!!

Sean and Rachel
Off the Wagon Productions
Photos of the afternoon in question to be posted soon.

HOTD Blurb in Travel Guide

Found this blurb about HOTD and Newt's in Objectssearch.com's Travel guide to Black Rock City. It was slightly freaky, but cool to see...

http://www.objectssearch.com/travel/get.jsp?page=/en/article/Black_Rock_City

Drink

Again, non-commercialism means there are no paid bars in Black Rock City. However, a large number of bars exist at Burning Man. Participants can walk up and order or be given a drink at any of these bars scattered around the city, but most will have supplies limited to a house specialty drink or a few hard liquor choices and mixers. Barter bars depend on donations from "customers" to keep going; providing ice, cups, mixer, liquor, limes or entertainment will make you a much more welcome guest.

Hair of the Dog (also known as "Spanky's Bar"). Open 24 hours, more or less. A venerable establishment in BRC, HOTD is a large and spacious bar with a number of couches and tables for guests. Musical groups perform on the provided stage. Bar owner Spanky is friendly and knowledgeable.

Newt's Bar, Blue Light District. Hours vary; usually open in the afternoons or around dusk. Features cocktails of most ilks, and occasionally Newt's delicious homebrew beers and wines. The Blue Light District is home to many of the oldest of the old-timers in the Burning Man community, and most of them hang out at Newt's at least part of the day. A great education can be had from any of your neighbors at this bar.

Thanks to the fact that it was recently my birthday, I have secured a cowbell. I am also suggesting that in correlation with above mentioned early morning percussion jam, we team up with some of my campmates from Tourettes Camp to sing our new song, Nipple Titty Cock Fuck!"

We didnt buy 400 pairs of earplugs for nothin.

First off, nature's own light show is happening tonight:
http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/space/08/11/pmeteor.shower/index.html
DO get outside and watch for a while if you get the chance.

Secondly, Uplift is happening tomorrow night at Sublounge. Please be sure to join us as we deliver mostly progressive beats (although I'll have some other tasty bits in the record crate that I can play for you if you ask nicely. ;) ) Uplift takes place every 2nd Thursday of the month, and we have an amazingly talented up and comer as our guest DJ this month; Farmboy (http://www.djfarmboy.com).

Uplift happens at The SubLounge, 628 20th Street @ 3rd Street, SF
8p-2a
No cover
$3 wells and Beer specials all night. ;)

House Band

I nominate The Gomer Hendrix band to take the coveted HOTD House Band title this year since those guys are doing the most work towards getting a stage going. Am I still playing bass with you guys?

I imagine Curly will also play a set. Lord help us (ie. J.C. should sit in with us). If Spanky shows again this year he could sit in with us for a rendition of "Whiskey on the Playa."

The Serotonins have also contacted me about playing a set. They said they had a great time on our stage last year and want to do it again. I am still working on Carol Channing. The music scene for us seems to be taking shape nicely.
